Maui Volcano Tours
The tours of Haleakala are some of the best tours that you can go on in Maui, whether you choose helicopter, bus, or bike tours. If you want to go up on a sunrise bike tour, be sure to dress warmly, because the weather could be in the 20s and 30s at the top. Or if you go by bus, is not as important to dress warmly, because you will be outside for a smaller space of time, but it is still advisable if you go in the morning. It is actually better to go for the sunset instead as it is warmer and the crater's colors are more vibrant. You will want to book all of the morning tours far in advance because it is one of the most popular places go for the sunrise. If you want a later tour or want to go by helicopter, then you don't need to book it nearly as early.
Bus Tours to Haleakala
Haleakala is the volcano that created Maui a long time ago, but it has not erupted for many years. On a trip up or down it, you will go through many different climate types ending up in the tropical climate that Hawaii is known for. This can be a very good tour, but generally is not nearly as exciting or exotic as the bicycle or helicopter tours. However, it is affordable and it doesn't require that you be outside for very long.
Bicycle Tours
Sunrise bicycle tours are among the most popular tours in Maui. The first one was started by Bob Kiger, who decided that a morning bicycle tour would be great for people wanting to start their day in one of the most beautiful ways. It grew quickly and currently there are 400 cyclists a day on average that start their tour on Haleakala. This has caused a problem with parking in the park and so many personal vehicles are getting turned away at the park gate. These tours get filled incredibly early, so be sure you order them several months in advance to be sure that you get a ticket.
Helicopter Tours
The helicopter tours will not take you up to Haleakala during the sunrise. Most of them don't start until 9 a.m. or later. However, sunset is the most beautiful time to see Haleakala and it is also less busy, so you can book your helicopter tour so that you have enough time to get back to Haleakala for the sunset if you desire or need to do them both in the same day.
